Hi Andy, had a great time in Nozawa, loved the village ,the mountain and the snow.Resort Inn Toemu was very comfortable and we made some good friends while staying there.
Will be in contact a little later in the year to book a couple of weeks in Nozawa and a week in Myoko.
Heading over the ditch to Wanaka in August might possibly see you there?
Looking forward to seeing you next year in Japan.

Hi Kirk,
I agree, the long laps and runouts are definitely a weak point for Nozawa. Utopia and Schneider can be lapped by just the one gondola though. In terms of forewarning, the mountain map on our page mentions both the long laps and also refers to the infrequent operation of the Challenge lift.

About the grooming, I guess you are talking about Yamabiko? I think they groom that because there isn’t enough pitch to ride the powder properly. This is not a problem when the trees get just a little bit more cover and you can go pretty much anywhere in the area. If you are still in Nozawa look out for the guy in the light blue jacket and dark blue pants, I’ll show you where to go so you don’t go home dissapointed!

Hey but no-one ever mentions the fact that some of the lifts just don’t turn mid-week (want to ski Utopia or Schneider’s on a powder day? exceptional. Except for the long run out followed by nearly half an hour riding gondola & 2 chairs). The official policy – every run is accessible, even though some lifts close during the ‘slower mid week’. Hmmmm, not so awesome. A bit of fore-warning would be nice.
And grooming runs edge-to-edge after 50cm of fresh powder? What’s that about?

Hi John, glad you enjoyed the video – it was certainly fun making it! Conditions should be awesome in early Feb, and there’s plenty of interesting places to ride to say the least…

Great video & nice looking terrain. I will be in Akakura for the first time on 2 Feb and looking forward to finding the exact location of that vid.
