Another bluebird day here in Myoko today, with fantastic views and plenty of vitamin D to be had. On the downside, temperatures did get up well above zero with the bottom half of the hill getting fairly soft by mid-afternoon. Right now there is a strong wind blowing and its the kind we don’t like – a southerly, bringing warmth and again the threat of rain. The forecast shows the wrong kind of precipitation from tonight through tomorrow morning before a drop in temperatures will hopefully bring some snow in the afternoon and evening. The wind will turn westerly again and Friday night is looking snowy as well so hopefully there won’t be too much damage done…

The second bluebird day in a row here in Myoko, and with the snowy winter we’ve had so far, the sunshine is more than welcome as far as I’m concerned! Snow showers are forecast for tonight and tomorrow night, but it doesn’t look like much is going to fall. From Wednesday we are expecting some southerlies and the associated rise in temperature may again bring some rain to the village and even the lower slopes across the Myoko area. The weather is expected to clear up and get colder again by the end of the week.

A magical day today at Suginohara, with around 30cm of fresh, light snow and hardly anybody around made for lots of fresh tracks and smiles all around. More snow is on the way tonight and tomorrow so it may be time to track down a powder board or some fat skis to rent or borrow….

With around 20cm of new snow across the resorts and a beautiful sunny day, it was another fantastic day on the slopes in Myoko today. There really is just nothing like the feeling of sliding around in the trees in the fresh snow with blue skies above….

It’s looking like the snow is going to settle back in overnight and we should get a decent dump throughout the day tomorrow and into Saturday with Sunday still looking sunny and fantastic. Ahhh Myoko….

It’s been snowing lightly throughout the day today, adding to the 10~15cm overnight. With a moderate wind blowing all day it will be building up quite nicely on the leeward slopes. Snow showers are forecast to continue throughout tomorrow before heavier snow in the evening and into Friday. Conditions are looking quite cold so it should be nice dry Niigata pow as we know and love it. With a sunny Sunday morning still on the cards, it looks like more memories in the making!

It’s been an overcast day down in the village of Akakura Onsen, with low cloud hanging around the mountains and light snow falling from the afternoon onwards. Visibility was poor out on the slopes and with the snow warming up it was not the best day for sliding. Things are getting colder already and by Thursday it looks like we’ll be back to low temperatures and decent snow falls. Sunday is still looking like a lovely clear day, and with some new snow and cold conditions it should be a corker!

BELOW: A nice little pillow drop at Akakura Kanko

It was a beautiful sunny morning this morning in Akakura, although the pictures don’t show it (too much fun sliding to get the camera out until later!). There was 10~20cm of new snow and absolutely no wind, making me wish I had gotten out of bed earlier and gone for a hike!

Light snow and snow showers are forecast overnight before another sunny morning, then more weather closing in in the afternoon. Temperatures will be back up above freezing and there is the possibility of rain but hopefully we’ll dodge that bullet at least up on the slopes. From Thursday night onwards things are looking snowy again, until Sunday morning when things should clear up again.

We’ve had another 10~20cm of new snow overnight here in Myoko but it’s a pretty windy day with fairly poor visibility. On the positive side, that should keep the crowds down and it’s always easier to see in the trees….

The forecast predicts a sunny morning tomorrow before snow showers and light snow close back in and then a similar pattern on Tuesday with the possibility of rain on the lower slopes. Temperatures will fall again throughout the week and light snow and snow showers are forecast right through to Saturday.

A partially cloudy day with light snow in Myoko today, with only 5~10cm of new overnight snow. Stronger winds in the afternoon bringing more cold conditions in from the west and temperatures are expected to stay low right through the weekend.

From Monday there will be a shift towards southwesterly winds bringing warmer temperatures and again the threat of rain at lower altitudes is on the horizon, but only briefly as cold conditions and snow return from Wednesday afternoon.
