Myoko Kogen
Myoko Kogen Ski Resorts

Myoko Kogen is an amazing place to enjoy the snow in Japan. There is everything you could possibly want, from wide open gentle groomed slopes for the beginners and familys, to parks full of kickers and rails as well as a plethora of awesome options for backcountry expeditions and endless side-country powder stashes to be found!
Backcountry

The Myoko Kogen area has a huge variety of options for backcountry touring. Maeyama, Mitaharayama, Akakurayama, and Kurohime-san are all accessible via a combination of resort lifts and hiking.
The Snow

The Myoko Kogen area gets an average of 13 meters of snow annually, making it one of the snowiest areas in Japan. Being within sight of the Japan Sea, it is a great coastal snowpack similar to the west coast resorts of Canada such as Whistler Blackcomb. January is generally the snowiest month, but big dumps can come anywhere from December through to April. The base usually lasts well into April making for excellent spring skiing too.
Akakura Onsen Village

Akakura Onsen is the hub of the Myoko Kogen area. It has the highest concentration of restaurants and bars, a great selection of souvenir shops, a number of hotels and it’s right at the base of the Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen ski areas.
