Onsen
(Jump to Top, Bars, ATM or Restaurants)
Akakura is famous for its hot springs, especially the bronze colour of the hot spring water. When you walk around the town the streets are covered in a bronze ‘dirt’, which is the tarnishing effect from the natural springs. It is quite a unique experience to walk around the streets and see the muddy bronzed colours around the town. Most hotels in the village have Onsen and many of them are open to outside guests within specific hours. The table and map below show which hotels are open when, where they are, and how much they charge for outside guests to use their onsen.
There are also other onsen outside the village available for use; “Landmark” in Ikenotaira, “Naena no yu” in Suginosawa (near Suginohara ski area) as well as the nearby towns of Tsubame Onsena and Seki Onsen. The first two of these can be accessed easily using the free Mt. Myoko shuttle. Landmark is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and prices start from ¥780 per adult for one hour. There is an indoor bath as well as a “rotemburo” or outdoor pool as well. Naena no yu is open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm every day except for one holiday per month and has one indoor bath. It costs ¥450 per adult or ¥300 per child for unlimited use of the onsen.
Tsubame Onsen and Seki Onsen are not accessed by a regular bus except for the 3 day a week once per day Seki Onsen ski bus departing from Akakura Onsen.
