Something everyone who goes skiing should know about – Courier services in Japan are wonderfully convenient and inexpensive. All you need to do is visit the courier outlet outside the arrivals gate and you can send your luggage directly to your accommodation for only around ¥2000. This service is generally overnight, so if you are planning on skiing the next day then it might not be for you. But if you are doing a side trip enroute to the slopes it will be a lifesaver – lugging heavy bags through a busy station at peak time is the last thing you want to do. Check with your accommodation in advance, but in most cases it won’t be a problem to have your luggage arrive before you do.

Obviously you will need to know the address and phone number of the place you are sending your luggage to, so make sure you note that before you arrive!

You can also send luggage from the ski area on to your next place of stay, or straight back to the airport. Courier forms will be available at your place of accommodation. You need to arrange sending luggage to the airport at least 2 days in advance of your departure to ensure your bags get there on time. You will also need to be there when your bags are picked up by the courier company, as they will give you a docket necessary to collect your luggage at the airport end.
