Nozawa Onsen Accommodation Q and A
Q.What kind of accommodation is for me?
A.There are two main kinds of accommodation in Nozawa – Minshuku and Ryokan. Minshuku means family run lodge, Ryokan are like a Japanese style hotel. Both have tatami mat flooring and futon beds as standard. Minshuku in general are around half the price of ryokans or less, but most have shared bathrooms and non-English speaking owners.
Q. What is the best area to stay in?
A. Nozawa Onsen is a very compact area, and regardless of where you stay you will be no more than a brief stroll from the slopes and into town. Resort Inn Toemu and Masazo are in the same general area, a short walk up to the Mukobayashi cat track, and less than 5 minutes right into the heart of the village.
Q. Will I be okay staying in Nozawa if I can’t speak Japanese?
A. Although a lot of accommodation options are run by non-English speakers, the people of Nozawa Onsen are very open and friendly and the language barrier is unlikely to be a problem. We provide all guests who we arrange accommodation for with a level of English speaking support and options for when you really need to make communication!
Q. What about food at the lodge?
A. You should check before you book, but in most cases breakfast will be included. Japanese breakfast is usually savoury and hearty with rice, vegetables and meat/fish, but if that’s not for you then most places have western options (check before booking).
